Brewing a Better Future
14 November 2025Our Partnership with Bootlegger Coffee
From the linen on your bed to the coffee in your cup, we're committed to making choices that honour both our guests and our planet. That's why we're proud to be Friends of the President, serving Bootlegger Coffee throughout our property.
More Than Just Great Coffee
When you take that first sip of your morning coffee at breakfast, you're tasting more than expertly roasted beans. You're experiencing a shared commitment to doing business the right way. Since opening their doors in Sea Point in 2013, Bootlegger has built their reputation on three pillars that mirror our own values: quality, consistency and sustainability. What started as a humble roastery founded by three best friends has grown into a popular South African lifestyle brand, now serving over 80 locations nationwide - and they've never compromised on their principles.

Sustainability from Farm to Cup
Bootlegger's dedication to ethical sourcing aligns perfectly with our hotel's sustainability journey. Every bean they use is 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified, ensuring that the coffee we serve you supports sustainable farming practices, protects ecosystems and provides fair conditions for farming communities. Their beans come from renowned coffee-growing regions including Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Tanzania - places where sustainable practices are paramount.
Operating one of the largest micro roasteries in South Africa, Bootlegger roasts between 350 and 400 tonnes of premium coffee annually at their FSSC-certified artisanal roastery. This certification ensures food safety and quality management at the highest international standards.
The result? A smooth, consistent blend with tasting notes of toasted hazelnut, caramel and dark chocolate that our guests rave about. Every cup reflects the journey from sustainable farm to expert roaster to your table.
Friends of the President: A Partnership Built on Shared Values
Being Friends of the President with Bootlegger means more than serving excellent coffee. It represents a partnership between two brands that believe business can be a force for good.
Just as we've invested in energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures and locally sourced amenities throughout our property, Bootlegger has invested in building a supply chain that respects the environment and the communities that grow their coffee. Together, we're proving that guests don't have to choose between quality and conscience.
Our partnership with Bootlegger is one piece of our broader sustainability journey, but it's an important one.
As Bootlegger continues to grow toward their goal of 200 cafés by 2028, and as we continue evolving our own sustainability practices, we're excited to walk this path together.
