The President Hotel marked the beginning of Women’s Month with a special Afternoon Tea in collaboration with the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind, bringing together a group of women for a relaxed afternoon of connection and shared experiences.

Over Afternoon Tea, guests had the opportunity to connect with one another before hearing from Angela Blackwell, whose remarkable personal achievement offered a powerful reminder of the importance of perseverance and partnership.

“This year’s Women’s Day High Tea theme was Women of Vision, which echoes our belief that vision is about so much more than sight. It is about having a sense of purpose, seeing possibility beyond what is immediately in front of us, and using that vision to create meaningful change in the lives of others. We are so thankful to The President Hotel for their generosity and for creating a space that is inclusive of both dogs and people with disabilities.” Toni Erasmus, Marketing Manager at South African Guide-Dogs.

Angela shared her experience of becoming the first blind person to complete the 65 km Pondo Trail alongside her guide dog, Jaydee. The multi-day hike presented a significant physical and personal challenge, while also highlighting the unique relationship between a guide dog and its owner. Her journey helped bring greater awareness to the work of the South African Guide-Dogs Association and the vital role guide-dogs play in supporting independence and mobility.

The achievement also extended far beyond the trail. Through Angela’s journey and her Paws on the Path fundraising campaign, she raised half a million rand to sponsor the training of four future guide dogs, helping to create life-changing opportunities for others who will one day rely on the support and companionship of a guide dog.

“I was honoured to share our story. Jaydee and I walked the four-day Pondo Trail with purpose: to raise awareness, raise funds to sponsor four future guide dogs, and shine a light on the incredible work of the South African Guide Dogs Association. As someone whose life has been transformed by a guide dog, I wanted others to experience that same life-changing gift.” Angela Blackwell.

For The President Hotel, the afternoon reflected the importance of creating spaces where people can come together around stories, causes and experiences that have a lasting impact. The hotel continues to welcome opportunities to support organisations doing meaningful work within the community and to create experiences that connect guests and local communities with causes close to home.

As Women’s Month begins, The President Hotel was proud to share the occasion with the South African GuideDogs Association and a community of inspiring women. The afternoon offered an opportunity to celebrate an extraordinary achievement while recognising the wider impact that can come from determination, partnership and a commitment to helping others.
