A Vision Brought to Life

Award-winning landscape designer Josephine Noyce has transformed what was once a traditional hotel pool area into something truly special. Her approach? Replace rigid lines with organic shapes, swap predictable straight edges for flowing curves and sinuous pathways, and create rounded walls that serve double duty as intimate seating nooks.

The result is a space that feels less like a typical hotel amenity and more like a sophisticated urban oasis.

Design That Flows

One of the most striking features is how seamlessly the space transitions from one area to another. Sunken lounges give way to raised platforms, the Deck Bar flows into elevated garden seating areas. Despite being carefully zoned for different purposes, the space never feels cramped or crowded.

A Nod to Heritage

Underfoot, you'll discover a custom Palladian-style mosaic crafted from acid-washed marble and limestone. The hand-sealed design is both beautiful and practical, carefully chosen to complement the softer elements borrowed from Paarl, where some of the garden's materials originate. Organic grout lines help manage the natural expansion that comes with poolside living.

Living Layers

Evergreen grasses flow throughout the space, choreographed into layers that sway and shift with the breeze. This creates a wonderful sense of visual continuity and abundance. The planting pockets are woven directly into the seating areas, so every seat feels nestled within nature rather than perched beside it.

When the Sun Goes Down

Perhaps the most dramatic transformation happens after sunset. Working closely with lighting specialists, Noyce developed an evening-first lighting scheme that turns the pool deck into something almost ethereal. It's the kind of space that makes you want to linger long after your swim.

Beyond its beauty, this new poolside was designed with functionality in mind. There's ample space for sun loungers without the sardine-style layout typical of many hotel pools. Staff have clear circulation routes, wheelchair access has been thoughtfully integrated, and intimate conversation nooks dot the perimeter. It's a space that genuinely works as hard as it looks good.
